[edit] Main information

SID (シド) is a Japanese rock band under Sony's Danger Crue Records. Though they are technically still Indies they have a large fan base and are rapidly gaining popularity, as evidenced by the speed with which they sell out all of their releases.

SID is a visual indie band that formed in 2003. They stand out from the rest of the indies scene with their jazzy sound that is absent in Visual Kei. Despite their youth in the world of Japanese rock, SID have had a lot of exposure. They continously play lives in Japan and in 2004 SID did a short tour of American anime conventions. The tour helped to launch their fan base in the states. In addition to touring, SID has been interviewed for several J-Rock magazines such as Shoxx and Fool's Mate.

SID was formed in 2003 by Mao and Aki. The band was soon joined by Shinji and Yuya. They began as a visual kei band but Mao wants to leave that scene as soon as possible so the band can develop their own style. This same year the SID leave to them the 1st MANDELEVIUM of which all the specimens will be sold and who will even see himself republished a few months later. How for the first version, the 2nd press will see sold out! Ca thus does not start rather badly for the SID! In 2004, they give some lives and take part in some vents whose places are sold with wonder. It is also this year that to them 1st individual on March 28 will leave. It will make sold out like its two republications, and which will leave a few times afterwards. But as astonishing as that can appear, it will be in the USA that 1st individual will be initially available for them. Indeed, in May 2004, the SID are selected to go to Anime Central, great convention of animates and mangas in the United States, following the cancellation of Miyavi. It is with this convention that their individual will be available for the first time. They will sign thereafter under the label of Sony, Danger Raw Records, producer of step badly of groups of Jrock and Visual. 2004 will see also the exit of a very first album for the group [Renai] and its limited edition of 10.000 specimens only. In 2005 the SID begin truly their Indies career with the individual one, which will be followed of their 3rd individual. Is a round announced for the autumn, it, all the concerts will be played closed counters! A second album also has suddenly left which will be classified even 26th with the signal Oricon. The sales of the SID are at beautiful fixed the this year still. At the beginning of 2006 leaves to them 4th individual, then them 5th individual in June and them 6th individual in August, which go better and better while being placed respectively to 18th, 10th and the 9th place of the signal Oricon! In April, the SID give two concerts of which all the places will be sold! One 3rd album is announced for November followed by a winter round. 2006 will thus be seen being the year of the concretization for the group, which completed its reconversion of the Visual style for their own style and their particular musical universe. It also should be specified that these boys compose and write absolutely all their songs (the words are written by Mao and the majority of the compositions are carried out by Aki).

[edit] SID… Then and Now

SID was formed in 2003 by Mao and Aki. Shinji and Yuuya were added as members very soon after and the band was picked up by Danger Crue Records, a prolific Visual Kei and J-Rock label. They started as a Visual Kei band, though as of 2006 they have dropped that image.

When 雅-miyavi- had to cancel his appearance at Anime Central in May of 2004, SID was chosen to fill the spot (before they had signed under Danger Crue) and have since gained quite the following in the United States. At the time of their performance, however, they had not yet released a single in Japan. Anime Central was the first place their singles were available.

Their goal for 2006 is to break into the Major scene, beginning with their single Sweet? which was remarkably less visually oriented as well as much more poppy musically than their previous works, which had tended to maintain a certain blues edge. Since then they have enjoyed a moderate amount of success on the Oricon charts.
