SIC - Sociedade Independente de Comunicação is Portugal's third terrestrial television station. Launched on October 6, 1992, it is now one of the most watched networks in the country, carrying a mix of local Portuguese programming and Brazilian soap operas; as well as U.S. and British series, always subtitled .

SIC also operates several other channels carried on satellite and cable TV in Portugal such as SIC Notícias (News channel), SIC Radical (for the youth), SIC Mulher (programmes mostly for women) and SIC Comédia (both national and international comedy shows), as well as an international channel, SIC Internacional, which broadcasts in Europe, Africa, South America, North America, and Australia.
