Shyama Chittar (August 21, 1942), is a female vocal artist born in Kundapur, India. She is the younger sister of famous playback singer Suman Kalyanpur and daughter of Mr. Shankarrao Vyankatrao Hemmady and Mrs. Sitabai S. Hemmady. She currently resides in Mumbai, India.

Shyama Chittar is a playback singer and an A Grade artist of the All India Radio. Her recordings have been used in films and television in a variety of languages.

She started her first lessons in music at an early age under guidance of her mother, Mrs. Sitabai Shankarrao Hemmady (nee Sitabai Vitthalrao Someshwar). She recorded her first song when she was eight under the guidance of Shri Sudhir Phadke at Film Institute, Pune. She recorded several songs as a playback child artist for films like Devghar, Devagharche Lene, and Gajjgauri.

She started her basic training in music from Late Baburao Gokhale (Ganesh Ramchandra Gokhale) of Maharashtra Sangeet Vidyalaya. She stood first in Gandharva Mahavidyalaya exam during her school years. She won many prizes for her voice at school, the Ganesh Utsav, Diwali Competitions and inter-collegiate competitions. In addition to light music, she also received training in Classical music. She trained under Ustad Abdul Rehman Khan, Keshav Rao Bhole, Yeshwant Dev, Shri Niwas Khale, and Pandit Ramesh Nadkarni (Disciple of Ustad Amanali Khan Saheb of the Bhendi Bazar Gharana). She also achieved fluency in the Urdu language from Ustadji Ishaque Patel.

Shyama Chittar has recorded for films in languages such as Marathi, Hindi, Konkani, Kannada, and Gujarati. She has sung duets with Mohammad Rafi, Hemant Kumar, Mukesh, Manna Dey, Mahendra Kapoor, and youth artists like Udit Narayan, and Suresh Wadkar. She has also performed with her elder sister Suman Kalyanpur. She has also worked in other areas of music, including Bhajans, Geet, Abhang & Gazals. Her work has been released by companies such as Venus, H.M.V's Sa Re Ga Ma (RPG), Oriental Melodies, and Prime Time. She has also performed in a variety of major Indian cities and has sung for several television programs since 1974. Shyama Chittar also won the Sur Singaar Samsad award. She was nominated as member of Local Audition Committee by the Deputy Director General for Marathi Sugam Sangeet at All Air India.

She was interviewed by the Daily Marathi newspaper on November 19, 1992, the LokPrabha Magazine on January 8, 1989, Playback & Fastforward magazine in October, 1988, and the Free Press Bulletin daily newspaper on November 20, 1979.
