Shyam

Shyam is another name for the Hindu deity Krishna. It means one with black or dark complexion. Krishna's brother Balarama was fair in color and Krishna was dark.

It is also sometimes given in the extended form of Shyamasundar or Ghanshyam or Radheyshyam or Shyamcharan .

Often people within Bhakti traditions will be named 'Shyamdas' meaning 'the servant of Shyam' (Krishna).
