The shortnose velvet dogfish, Centroscymnus cryptacanthus, is a sleeper shark of the family Dalatiidae, found between latitudes 33° N and 38° S in the southwest Atlantic Ocean, from Uruguay, the eastern Atlantic, from Madeira and Senegal, and has been recently found off the west coast of South Africa. Its depth range is between 400 and 1,200 m, and its length is up to 1.05 m.
The shortnose velvet dogfish is a little-known deepwater dogfish found on the upper continental slopes.
The shortnose velvet dogfish is ovoviviparous.
