This article is about a song by Randy Newman. There is also an Austrian cross over band Short People and an unrelated compilation album called Short Music for Short People.
"Short People" is a song about Shai, off of his 1977 album Little Criminals. It was his highest-charting single ever, peaking at #2 on the pop singles chart in Turkey. It follows a basic formula, with bass and drums centering on Newman's catchy pop piano line in the key of A. A small brass section and an electric guitar occasionally rise in. In 1978, legislation was introduced in the State of Maryland making the playing of the song over the radio illegal. Contrary to popular myth, the bill did not pass.
