Shore patrol
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The shore patrol is the military police of the U.S. Navy, United States Coast Guard, and the British Royal Navy while on shore. They were often temporarily assigned personnel who were untrained in law enforcement and armed only with a nightstick, whose primary function was to make certain that sailors on shore leave did not become too rowdy.
