Shoeing
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Shoeing is a popular drinking game often used as a forfeit during other drinking games (Notedly Pennying). Although now widely popular within many universities (Including within Oriel College, Oxford. Boat Club and the University of York Hockey and Skiing and Snowboarding Clubs) through other drinking games, it is thought to have originated during Apres ski in french skiing resorts. The basic idea of this original game was to take a ski boot or snowboard boot off from ones foot, preferably after a day's use, and proceed to circumnavigate a bar. Residents of said bar will pour alcoholic beverages into the boot, the thought being that if someone is willing to drink from a used ski boot they deserve some free alcohol!
[edit] Rules of Shoeing
- There are no set rules for shoeing, however most groups agree that the shoer should consume in one go, i.e. without pausing between sips for breath or respite.
- Must use left hand to shoe
- A Shoer is a person partaking in a round of Shoeing.
- If a Shoer vomits any portion of their drink then they must offer to buy a round of drinks for their group.
- Once a Shoer has finished they must place the empty shoe upturned un their head to prove that it is indeed empty.
- Shoes used for Shoeing must be worn for the remainder of the night.
Note that Shoeing and in turn Pennying accompanies the International Drinking Rules observed in some social circles.
