Shiunji, Niigata

Shiunji (紫雲寺町; -machi) is a town located in Kitakanbara District, Niigata, Japan.

As of 2003, the town has an estimated population of 7,840 and a density of 293.63 persons per km². The total area is 26.70 km².

Shiunji is the hometown of Sasagawa Miwa, a popular Japanese folk singer. In October 2005 she released a single, called "紫雲寺" which was available only in Niigata. The song is also included on her February 2006 album "夜明け" (Yoake) which is available throughout Japan (as well as through many online retailers).
