Shinya Aoki (born on the 9th of May 1983) is a Japanese mixed martial arts fighter and grappler. Shinya Aoki is the current Shooto Middleweight (167lbs) champion after defeating Akira Kikuchi in February of 2006. Shinya Aoki holds a black belt in Brazilian jiu-jitsu under Yuki Nakai, as well as a black belt in Judo. He works as an instructor at Paraestra Kasai, but represents the Paraestra Tokyo head-school when competing.

Aoki holes an MMA record of 8-2, with 4 submissions and 1 TKO. In August of 2006 he made his PRIDE debut at Bushido 12, submitting American fighter Jason Black in under two minutes with a triangle choke. His last fight was at Bushido 13 where he defeated Clay French with a flying triangle choke.
Aoki's next fight is set for PRIDE Shockwave 2006 against Joachim Hansen[1].
