Shimaki Kensaku

Shimaki Kensaku (島木 健作, September 7, 1903 - August 17, 1945) was a Japanese author.

In his youth, he was an active communist and was arrested for his activities in the nationwide round-up of communists in 1928. He was more or less forced to renounce his communist beliefs in order to be released. The often forced renounciation of Communism by many Japanese authors in this period is known as Tenkō.

Shimaki suffered from tuberculosis, the disease which eventually killed him.
