Shima Chikamasu
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Shima Chikamasu (島親益?) (????-1571) was a retainer of the Japanese clan of Chosokabe during the Sengoku Period of the 16th century. Chikamasu was the youngest son of the famous Chosokabe Kunichika and brother of Chosokabe Motochika. It is known that Chikamasu suffered from tuberculosis and in 1571 set out to a hot spring in Awa Province in an attempt to bolster his health. Sadly however, Chikamasu was slain by a certain samurai under the Awa, who believed him to be a spy. This gave Motochika a grand excuse for invading the province of Awa. Even though Chikamasu was very ill of health, he was known as a very cheerful and considerate individual.
