Shillelagh, County Wicklow
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Shillelagh is a town in County Wicklow, Republic of Ireland.
Its name came from Irish Gaelic Síol Éalaigh = "descendants of Éalach".
The town itself was planned out as part of the Fitzwilliam estate in the 17th century. Nearby Coolattin House (designed by John Carr and built around 1800) was the seat of the FitzWilliam Estate.
Tomnafinnoge Oak Wood is one of the largest remaining oak forests in Ireland. A path was recently opened along the route of an old railway leading to the nearby town of Tinahely.
