[edit] History
[edit] Samurai Shodown 64
Shiki (Japanese: 色) was born as one of Yuga's babies. Her identity and memory are fractured, but she was brainwashed and trained in the usage of twin sword fighting. She was told to find a man fit to become the perfect body for the Dark Lord's resurrection. Finding Haohmaru to be that man, she follows him for a chance to take him away to the dark side and is relentless in her quest.
[edit] Samurai Shodown 64: Warriors Rage
Her soul was finally freed after Haohmaru defeated Yuga. However, a year later, Yuga returned from the afterlife. During this timeframe, she encounters Shadow Asura who was sent to capture her but the two fall in love. After the two Asura's defeat Yuga, she gives birth to Mikoto. She then leaves her child with Nicotine and Haohmaru. It is unknown what occurred after this point, but it is strongly implied she died somewhere.
[edit] Trivia
- Shiki first appeared as a playable character in Samurai Shodown 64 for the Hyper Neogeo 64, and again in its followup, Samurai Shodown 64: Warriors Rage on the same platform.
- Shiki has appeared in SVC Chaos: SNK vs. Capcom and Neo Geo Battle Coliseum, as well as SNK Gals' Fighters on the Neo Geo Pocket Color.
- Shiki is one of the most popular characters in the Samurai Shodown series, but is comparatively unknown outside of Japan, due to the poor distribution of the two 3D games in the series.
- Her true name is Kanae.
- She works as a fortune teller when she's not attacking Haohmaru in ST.
- Shiki's personality is belied by her name, which means "color" in Japanese, but also means "sensuality" or "lust." Virtually all of her moves are overtly sexual in nature, involving sensuous motions and/or close contact with her opponent. This is particularly true of her Bust form in Samurai Shodown 64: Warriors Rage, where she is labeled "Han'in to Narishi Shiki" (半陰となりし色), meaning "Half-Shaded," but also with strong undertones of bisexuality. She is also heterochromatic, with one blue eye and the other blood red, which also plays into the "color" aspect of her name.
- Shiki is the only fighting game character to sport a purple snake tattoo besides Vega from Street Fighter.
