Shield Lands

In the World of Greyhawk campaign setting for the Dungeons & Dragons role-playing game, the Shield Lands, properly known as the Restored Holy Realm of the Faithful of the Shield Lands, is a political state of the Flanaess.

[edit] Geography
The Shield Lands are generally located in the central portion of the Flanaess. It is bordered by (country or geographical feature) to the north; by (country or geographical feature) to the east; etc.
As of 591 CY, the most populous towns are Critwall (pop. 14,300), and Bright Sentry (pop. 2,700, on Scragholme Island). Admundfort had a population of approximately 5,000, but has been occupied by Iuz's forces since 587 CY, so accurate figures are unlikely. All other towns have been destroyed by Iuz.

[edit] Population
As of 591 CY, the population of X totaled 27,000 persons, the vast majority (almost 80%) being humans of chiefly Oeridian stock, with some Suel and Flan as well. Halflings are the next largest group (9%), followed by Elves (5%), Dwarves (3%), and gnomes (2%), with half-elves, and half-orcs making up the remainder of the population (approximately 1% each).

The most popular deities among the Shield Lands's citizens are Heironeous (favored by the state), St. Cuthbert, Mayaheine, Pholtus, and Trithereon.

The most widely-spoken languages in the Shield Lands are Common, Halfling, and Elven.

The Shield Lands is a commonwealth of lords ruled by highest ranking noble of Walworth Isle, currently Her Most Honorable Ladyship, Countess Katarina of Walworth, Knight Commander of the Shield Lands.
The national capital is Critwall.

The state's coat of arms is blazoned thus: Gules, a tower sable within a bordure argent.

[edit] Resources
The Shields Lands have a significant number of livestock and foodstuffs in the regions occupied by Iuz, but these resources are not exported. What remains as the free lands does not hold many natural resources.

The Shield Lands do not currently have standard coinage; however, when found, the following coins are used most often: the gold knight (gp), electrum axeman (ep), silver shield (sp), and copper sheaf (cp).
