Sherman Hoar

Sherman Hoar, (1860 - 1898), was an American lawyer, member of congress and U.S. District Attorney for Massachusetts.
He graduated from Harvard University in 1882 and Harvard Law School in 1884. He was admitted to the bar of Middlesex County in 1885 and commenced practice law in Concord, Massachusetts.
He was a member of the Fifty-second US Congress, serving from March 4, 1891 through March 3, 1893) and US district attorney for the State of Massachusetts, 1893-97.
He was director of the Massachusetts Volunteer Aid Association, during the Spanish-American war and served in several US Army hospitals in the South.
Sherman Hoar came from a line of distinguished public servants. He was the son of US Attorney General Ebenezer Rockwood Hoar, nephew of US Senator George Frisbie Hoar, and cousin of Massachusetts Congressman Rockwood Hoar, grandson of US Congressman Samuel Hoar and the great-grandson of Roger Sherman who signed the Declaration of Independence.
