[edit] Trivia

  • Sherie was the first replacement for Maureen played by Idina Menzel in RENT on Broadway, and Idina would go on to be a replacement for the role of Amneris in which Sherie originated on Broadway in Aida.
  • Sherie is a close, long-time friend of Norbert Leo Butz. They have co-starred three times together in RENT, The Last 5 Years, and recently in Dirty Rotten Scoundrels on Broadway.
  • Sherie and Brooke Shields are close friends who met while starring together in the Broadway revival of Grease.
  • Scott wasn’t familiar with much opera before being cast as Amneris, the Pharoah’s daughter, in the Verdi opera inspired musical entitled Aida. Scott considered Disney's Aida to be a “pop musical,” resulting in her lack of research on the show as well as her character. Her main concern about playing Amneris, who at first appears comedic and superficial before revealing her true self, was that she’s white playing an Egyptian princess. Scott learned that her assumption that all Egyptians were black or Nubian was incorrect. She also read much on Elizabeth I who she felt shared many similarities with Amneris.
  • Sherie admired the work of John Kander and Fred Ebb, played Sabina in the tryout of their musical, Over and Over. She was nominated for a Helen Hayes award for her performance. Scott continuously found herself being involved with new works. She compared being in a new musical with “…going to war. You leave your friends and family; you know your life is going to be taken over. You could come back with serious injuries or with a little medal on your chest. It’s the most humbling, the most exhilarating, the most creative experience—and the best training that an actor can do” (Buckley 57).
