Sherbrooke is a suburb in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia. Its Local Government Area is the Shire of Yarra Ranges. Nearly its entire area is located within the Dandenong Ranges National Park.
The first permanent European settlement in 1893 was built by retired sea-captain, Robert W. Graham. This pioneer log hut (Merrimu), was hand cut from the forest using horizontal slab wall construction, an adobe floor, weatherboards and a sapling/shingle roof. Regarded as the 'Father of Sherbrooke' he named the area such because it reminded him of his Canadian birthplace. Graham is also credited with discovering Sherbrooke Falls. A rough hut at the back of the house, with a delivery slot cut in the door, became the Post Office in 1894 and operated through to 1920. The house and Post Office still stand.
