Shepherd's Bush (also known as Shepherd's Bush Metropolitan) is a London Underground station, one of two with the name. On the Hammersmith and City Line, it lies between Goldhawk Road and Latimer Road stations, in Travelcard Zone 2.
The first station by this name opened to the south of the present station on 13 June 1864 as part of the Metropolitan Railway extension to Hammersmith. It was replaced by the present station on 1 April 1914. From 1 October 1877 until 31 December 1906 there were also direct services to Richmond.
An entirely separate London Underground station, also called Shepherd's Bush, is nearby on the Central Line. The two stations are both in the neighbourhood of Shepherd's Bush in west London, and are within walking distance of each other at each end of Shepherd's Bush Common. The area around the stations includes several popular concert venues, and Loftus Road Stadium, home of Queens Park Rangers F.C. Shepherd's Bush Market lies on the opposite side of the street.
[edit] Future
In 2008 this station will be renamed Shepherd's Bush Market [2] to avoid confusion with the Shepherd's Bush Central Line station. Currently there is a new railway station being built adjacent to the Central Line. It is likely there will be an interchange between these latter two stations.
Also due for completion in 2008, a new station, Wood Lane, is under construction between Shepherd's Bush and Latimer Road stations to provide an interchange with White City station on the Central Line. This will serve the White City shopping development currently being constructed and will effectively be a replacement of the former White City Metropolitan Line station closed in 1959, but originally called Wood Lane [3].
