This article is about the mythical Chinese deity. For the fictional dragon in Dragon Ball, see Shenlong.
Shenlong (Traditional Chinese: 神龍; Simplified Chinese: 神龙; pinyin: shén lóng) is a spiritual dragon from Chinese mythology that controls wind and rain.
It is thought that Shenlong (English dub: Shenron), the wish-granting dragon of the manga and anime Dragon Ball, is a parody of him.
In the English version of Street Fighter II: The World Warriors, Ryu's victory dialogue is "You must defeat Sheng Long to stand a chance!" - Sheng Long referring to Ryu and Ken's Shoryuken. Many gamers erroneously took this to mean there was a hidden character in the game named Sheng Long, which eventually developed into an April Fools Joke by Electronic Gaming Monthly. In a fighting game by the company Hudson Entertainment called Bloody Roar there is a Zoanthrope character by the name of Long who, in the second installment of the series labeled Bloody Roar 2: The New Breed, has an evil clone named Shenlong.
