Shelly West

Shelly West (born May 23, 1958 in Cleveland, Ohio) is an American country singer and the daughter of country legend Dottie West.

West got her start when she was 17 years old by singing backup for her mother's show. She fell in love with the lead guitarist in her mother's band at the time, Allen Frizzell, who was the younger brother of David Frizzell and the late Lefty Frizzell.

At the time, David was looking for a record label and decided to duet with Shelly. After unsuccessfully making a name as a duo in Nashville, they scored a number one hit in 1981 with "You're the Reason God Made Oklahoma". They soon departed as a duo several years later, but not after enjoying a string of follow-up hits.

Shelly tried her hand as a solo artist between 1983 and 1986. She had a several top 10 hits but her most notable solo effort was "Jose Cuervo", a #1 hit in 1983 and boosted sales for the famed Jose Cuervo tequila company. West also had a top 10 hit later in 1983 with "Flight 309 to Tennessee".

She stopped recording in the mid 1980s. She did a few reunion shows with David Frizzell in the late 1980s but has not been on the charts since.
