Shawn Kuykendall (born February 21, 1982 in Fairfax, Virginia) is an American soccer player who plays midfielder for Red Bull New York (formerly the MetroStars) of Major League Soccer[1]. His parents are Kurt and Sherry Kuykendall. His father was inducted into the American University Athletics Hall of Fame in 1997 and was a 1973 All-American goalkeeper. Kurt Kuykendall played for the Washington Diplomats and the New York Cosmos in the NASL. Both parents attended American University Washington D.C. The Kuykendalls have a rich family history in American University soccer; Shawn's brother, JP, is a sophomore on the current AU squad. His other brother, Kris, is a 2003 graduate of AU and was co-captain of the 2002 team.

  • Successfull high school career at Madison High school.
  • Joined American University and continued his career as a midfielder. During an interview in his senior year in college Shawn said "It inspires me everyday to walk through Bender Arena and see my father's plaqu.e.
  • After completing college in February of 2005, he was drafted by D.C. United in the 4th round (48th overall)of the 2005 MLS Supplemental Draft.
  • In 2006 he was traded to Red Bull New York with his teammate Dema Kovalenko from D.C. United.
