[edit] Playing career
Horcoff was selected in the fourth round of the 1998 NHL Entry Draft, 99th overall, by the Edmonton Oilers. Before being drafted, he played for Michigan State University, in the Central Collegiate Hockey Association. He was twice named to the CCHA All-Academic Team, and during the 1999/2000 season was a first team all-star and was named the CCHA Player of the Year. After leaving university, Horcoff was signed by the Edmonton Oilers and sent to their American Hockey League affiliate, the Hamilton Bulldogs.
Horcoff spent little time in Hamilton, however, playing only 26 games there over two seasons. He quickly made an impression with Oilers' management, and made his National Hockey League debut during the 2000-01 season, where he has played since. During the NHL lockout, Horcoff went to Sweden, playing for Mora IK of the Elitserien. He has also represented Canada at the Ice Hockey World Championships. Horcoff's best season was in 2005-06 where he scored 22 goals and 51 assists for 73 points in 79 games played.
Horcoff was born with heterochromia, a condition in which one of his eyes is hazel and the other is blue.
Horcoff was part of the cinderella Edmonton Oiler team that made a run to the Stanley Cup Finals. However, the Oilers lost in game 7 of the finals to the Carolina Hurricanes. Horcoff had 7 goals and 12 assists in the 2006 Playoffs.
In July 2006, Horcoff re-signed with the Oilers on a three-year contract.
Horcoff remains friends with Pittsburgh Pirates left fielder Jason Bay, who grew up in Trail with him. Horcoff played minor hockey is Castlegar, where his parents reside, and also where he grew up.
