Shawn Harrison (politician)

Shawn Harrison (born March 20, 1965) is a City Councilman in Tampa, Florida. A lawyer, Harrison is a native of Anderson, Indiana.

He is a graduate of the University of South Florida and the University of Florida College of Law. He has been a practicing attorney in Tampa since graduating from law school. His legal specialty is commercial litgation.

Harrison is a longtime civic leader in Tampa and a resident of the New Tampa community. He has previously served on the Hillsborough County Consumer Protection Board and the Hillsborough County Public Transportation Commission. From 1996 to 1999 he was Chairman of the Tampa Palms Community Development District.

He was elected to the Tampa City Council in 1999 and reelected in 2003. A Republican, Harrison was elected in non-partisan elections to represent District 7. He is considered an up and coming political leader in Tampa who represents many young professionals.

Harrison currently serves as Chairman Pro Temp of the Council and as the Charman of the Transportation Committee. He is also the Chairman of the Metropolitan Planning Organization. He is term limited out of his district seat in 2007 and has announced plans to run for an at-large Council seat that year.

He and his wife Susan, have two children.
