"Shattered" is a song by The Rolling Stones from their 1978 album, Some Girls. The song is seen as a reflection of American lifestyles and life in 1970s-era New York City, but also influences from the English punk movement can be heard.
Recorded from October to December of 1977, "Shattered" features lyrics by Mick Jagger on a guitar riff by Keith Richards. Jagger commented in a Rolling Stone interview that he wrote the lyrics at the back of a New York cab. While Richards did contribute the main riff and the song's chant of "shadoobie," the song is noted as one of Ron Wood's shining moments with the Stones. Wood plays lead and pedal steel guitar, bass, and some drums on the track. Simon Kirke plays congas on the track.
"Shattered" was released as a single in the US and went to #31 on the Billboard Charts. The Stones memorabily performed the song live for an episode of Saturday Night Live during which Jagger apparently licked Wood's lips and tore his shirt off. Jagger also appeared in an earlier Tomorrow with Tom Snyder parody sketch where Dan Aykroyd portrayed Tom Snyder.
