[edit] Early career

Motlop played football in the Northern Territory for the Wanderers Football Club in the Northern Territory Football League before moving to the SANFL to play with the North Adelaide Roosters.

[edit] Kangaroos

He was drafted deep in the 1998 AFL Draft at pick 85, sending him to the Kangaroos Football Club. He was used as a small forward or midfielder and although he played in the 1999 premiership with the club, he was delisted due to some poor and inconsistent form (particularly in his final years at the club, 2002 and 2003). It was believed by many that Motlop had his final chance at the elite level of the AFL and he returned to North Adelaide.

[edit] Career resurrection

When Melbourne Demons player Troy Broadbridge died, the Demons were allowed by the AFL to look for a replacement wingman/half forward on their 2005 list. The Demons searched the country for the best and most experienced talent outside of the AFL that would be available and Motlop's name came up.

Motlop has since shown signs of brilliance, but has been in and out of the Demons side.

During his time in the reserves for the Demons, he played in the 2005 Sandringham Football Club premiership team.

His brother Daniel Motlop plays for the Port Adelaide Power.
