Shangy's
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Shangy's, based in Emmaus, Pennsylvania, United States, is one of the largest distributors of United States domestic and foreign import beers in the United States.
Shangy's is located on the west-side of Lehigh Street, on the Emmaus side of the town's border with Salisbury Township.
Founded in 1980 by Iranian immigrants, Shangy's sells over 3,000 domestic and foreign beers, more than any other U.S. beer distributor. Its 35,000-square-foot Pennsylvania store has become a hugely popular destination for beer enthusiasts throughout the U.S.
Due to Pennsylvania alcohol control laws beer may only be purchased by the case. Individual bottles and six packs are not sold at this store.
[edit] Suing InBev
In August, 2006, Shangy's generated national attention when it brought suit in Philadelphia federal court against InBev, the world's largest brewer of beer, for allegedly violating a 1998 agreement that Shangy's would be the exclusive distributor of Hoegarden, a popular Belgian beer, in 18 Pennsylvania counties[1].
