He has been a long-time member of the Billabong team, his main sponsor.

[edit] Childhood
Dorian started ripping the curls as a kid in Hawaii and continued to improve. His parents owned a nearby restaurant "Dorians." This is credited with giving Dorian a lot of free time to perfect his style.
[edit] Accolades
In 2000 he reached his highest ranking on the World Championship Tour (WCT) placing 4th overall worldwide. During his WCT run he won 2 competitions, the Rip Curl Pro in 1999 and the Billabong Pro in 2000. In the documentary "Solid: The Two Days That Teahupoo Blew Minds," fellow surfers gave him a standing ovation for his wave conquering rides. Dorian holds several other titles in surfing competitions.
[edit] Media personality
Shane starred in the 1998 movie, In God's Hands. Although many points in the movie resemble Dorian's life and persona, the film was purely fictional and not a documentary or biographical in nature. The film none-the-less was a hit with fans and surfers. A more recent film "The Blueprint" is biographical. Shane has also starred in the Campaign series of surf films by filmmaker Taylor Steele. He was the final scene in Campaign 2, a highly coveted spot in many surf films.
