Shambling mound
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
In the Dungeons and Dragons fantasy role-playing game, the shambling mound is a sentient plant. It resembles a 6 foot tall, 8 foot wide, heap of rotting, wooded vegetation with gnarled apendages for arms and legs. As its name suggests, it travels by slowly shambling around in a hunched posture. It lives in old, temperate forests and marshes.
The shambling mound is fairly dim-witted and has no real goal other than to consume other organic matter. Though it can eat other plants, and dead things, it prefers live meat. It attacks by constricting prey with its arm apendages. It can also crush and body slam them.
They cannot speak, and are regarded as neutral in alignment.
