Shakti (1982 film)

Shakti is a 1982 Bollywood movie. It was directed by Ramesh Sippy. Although the film had only average success at the box office [1] it gained fame for being the first and only film to feature two of Bollywood's biggest superstars, Dilip Kumar and Amitabh Bachchan.

A scrupulously honest cop DCP Ashwini Kumar (Dilip Kumar) has a very difficult decision to make when his son Vijay Kumar as a child is kidnapped by gangster JK. Verma (Amrish Puri). JK Verma demands the release of one his accomplices who was arrested and jailed by Ashwini Kumar or he will kill Vijay. Ashwini refuses to let a criminal be released and so Vijay decides to escape from the kidnappers himself and is eventually saved. Vijay grows up as (Amitabh Bachchan) never forgetting that his father refused to break the rules of his police work even if it meant saving his life. Vijay leaves home and starts working for K.D Narang (Kulbhushan Kharbanda), the mobster who had saved Vijay from JK Verma's clutches as a child when he attempted to escape. Vijay sees this a favour to him for what he did so he decides to work for him. Eventually Ashwini has to arrest Vijay for a murder charge and Vijay goes on the run. Will Ashwini arrest him or will the fact the Vijay is his son stop him?
