Shaker High School

Shaker High School is a high school in Latham, Albany County, New York. As of 2005, it has an enrollment of some 1,970 students. In 1985, it was recognized as an Exemplary School by the United States Department of Education, one of the first to receive this distinction. In 2006, it was noted as one of the top 10 high schools in New York, and one of the top 75 in the United States.[citation needed]

Shaker's top sports teams (mascot: Blue Bison), include boys' varsity track, basketball, girls' JV and varsity field hockey, lacrosse and Football, and both boys' and girls' varsity crew (sport rowing).

Shaker Girls JV and Varsity Tennis teams are both currently (as of fall 2006) #1 in the capital region. Varsity won sectionals in 2005 and is currently undefeated this season. Boys Varsity Gymnastics record: won 4 lost 0 (as of fall 2006)

The Shaker Girls Freshman, JV, and Varsity volleyball teams all succeeded in winning against Saratoga Central High School during their last game of the season.

Shaker also has a outstanding Football program. This year it was headed by Seniors Ryan Thomson, Brian Tourtellott, Mike Hayes, and Eddie Cross. In the 2005 Season Shaker Made an improbable run through the playoffs, beating CBA who was ranked 15th in the state at the time.

Shaker's principal, as of 2006, is Richard R. Murphy. He has guided Shaker since late February 2006.

It is part of the North Colonie Central Schools school district, and is fed in part by Shaker Junior High School.
