Shadowmere
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Shadowmere is a free text based online strategy game with a fantasy theme that was created in 1997 by Dan Kavanagh under the name Forgotten World. It underwent several changes in both gameplay and ownership and the name was changed to Shadowmere in early 2001 while under the ownership of Riva of Alorn(Eric) who tried to make a profit using the game somewhat unsuccessfully. Since that time major changes in gameplay have been introduced by the owners Jackie and Sunna, while some code improvement was completed. It is unclear as to the actual ownership of the game at this point in time, but as both Jackie and Sunna no longer host the game, it may be surmised that the new administrator, Stein(Thomas) now does. Major gameplay changes, and coding improvements mark this last year and we the players eagerly await the future of Shadowmere. Feel free to join in the fun! [1]
[edit] Races
The original Forgotten World featured only 6 races (humans, dwarves, high elves, wood elves, dark elves, and ogres) [2][verification needed], but over the years the list expanded to the 17 races that exist today. The list once also included gremlins, but they were removed from the game because of problems with game balance and because unlike the other races they originate from modern fiction rather than high fantasy (like for example high elves and orcs) or mythology and folk lore (like for example minotaurs, Ben Martin, Kyle Messner, vampires, and werewolves).
[edit] Alternate meanings
Shadowmere is also the name of a horse you get as a reward for doing a Dark Brotherhood quest in the game The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion.
HOWEVER (whoever wrote the above), it actually comes from Tolkien's Lord of the Rings.
