[edit] Plot
The Stargate is activated and Stargate Command is contacted by a member of the Kelownans. Later during a meeting it is revealed that they want to re-establish trade relations with Earth and SGC hopes to get more naqahdriah. After the meeting, Teal'c talks with Jonas Quinn, who feels uneasy about meeting his people again.
Later three Kelownans come to the base and Jonas is greeted by a former comrade named Dr. Kieran. At a meeting the Kelownans reveal that the two other countries on their world want to establish a peace treaty with one another, and so they want military technology from Earth. SGC is reluctant about this ever since their alliance with the Eurondans. The Kelownans then reveal that they would otherwise have to use a naqahdriah bomb. After the meeting SG-1 talks about the situation and Jonas reveals more about the situation on his world. Later Dr. Kieran comes back alone and meets with Jonas. During this meeting the doctor reveals that he is a member of an underground network, which wants to overthrow the government to stop the war. Jonas then discusses this with SG-1 and General Hammond and they agree to find out more about the situation.
SG-1 goes to the planet where they meet with the council of the Kelownans and talk about the trade relations. While the Kelownans want military technology , SG-1 only offers them medicine. Afterwards SG-1 talks with Dr. Kieran who tells them where the headquarter of the Resistance is and he later meets up with them. At night Jonas meets the First Minister and talks about his situation and whether he did the right thing. They also talk about the situation on the planet and the minister reveals that Kieran is acting erratic. He hopes that Jonas will watch him.
SG-1 again meets with the council and the team offers to negotiate with the enemies of the Kelownans. However the council is reluctant about this. They also talk about the Stargate and how they don't want to reveal its existence. If the Stargate was revealed, the public on both Kelowna and Earth would be alerted. Later SG-1 meets with Kieran who reveals that two scientists who were members of the Resistance are missing. Col. O'Neill then wants to leave but Kieran tells them that the Resistance will attack soon and offers them naqahdriah for their help.
Later the doctor goes through the city when he meets Jonas, who reveals that he was chased. They run away and are followed by guards. During the chase the doctor falls from a height and he is brought to SGC. During this time it is revealed that he was found on a street and nobody knows how he came there. Afterwards SG-1 (without Jonas) goes back to the planet and tries to locate the HQ of the Resistance. At SGC Dr. Fraiser reveals that Kieran seems to have schizophrenia. While SG-1 finally seem to find the base, Jonas talks with the council and tells them about the threat of the Goa'uld. SG-1 also finds a large cache of naqahdriah, which they bring back. O'Neill then comes into the room and reveals that there never was a resistance and that Dr. Kieran is schizophrenic. Jonas then confronts the council and they reveal that the two other scientists were sent into the psychiatric care. He then returns to SGC with O'Neill.
There they talk about the situation of Kieran and the danger of the naqahdriah, believing that while the Kelownans safety procedures were inadequate, theirs should be ample. Dr. Fraiser tells Jonas that while Kieran's brain damage can be kept from deterorating further, there is no known treatment to reverse the existing damage. Jonas then meets Kieran who still believes that there will be a coup. Jonas can only sadly agree.
[edit] Notes
- This episode is an homage to John Nash, see A Beautiful Mind. (Relation mentioned in the audio commentary)
- In this episode, the Tau'ri have adopted a similar, but not as strict position of technology sharing as the Tollan. The Tollan refuse to share any technology at all, even "harmless" technology that would benefit Earth. Earth refuses to give military technology to the Kelownans, but are agreeable to giving them non-military things, such as radiation safety protocols and anti-biotics.
- While being chased by the guards the Jonas from the doctor's imagination is seen carrying an Intar. This can also be spotted briefly when he is argueing with the council against using the naquadriah bomb.
