Chee Soon Juan
(Since kimchi has shut down the "vandal alert" section, let me post this here). In Talk:Chee Soon Juan, it was revealed that the article Chee Soon Juan has serious factual problem, and apparently Chee himself has issued a long list of challenged items in the article. Many of the POV and inaccurate statements were added to the article and remained undetected for almost a year. While to be interviewed by ISD is one cool thing, to be sued by Chee would be quite embarassing. As I'm not very familiar with the subject, it would be helpful if you guys can take a look and tidy up the article. Thanks. --Vsion 05:20, 20 June 2006 (UTC)
- Then the question now is...is wikipedia now accountable to the views of individuals who has articles writtern on them? While I cannot endorse nor reject these revealations of facts with regards to Chee given the lack of information I have at hand, it underscores the need to remind ourselves that wikipedia remain a sourced site with a strong NPOV culture. I do not consider direct inputs from the article's subject as "NPOV" in nature in general. Lets work towards the presentation of opinions from both benches (and not making conclusive comments on him) before we end up flip flopping between conflicting views...--Huaiwei 14:54, 12 July 2006 (UTC)
- The answer to the first question would be no, Wikipedia:Verifiability is the policy that applies here. Chee, in this case, did the right thing, by emailing the editors instead of editing the article himself. Those contributions by the three anons I listed in Talk:Chee Soon Juan have serious problems. I wonder what measures we can take to prevent this from occuring again. Hmmm... how about creating a new section in the noticeboard, for "Request for comment / request to verify"? It would be more prominent compared to the "to do" list. If I encounter a suspecting edit which I can't verify myself, I can post it under the section, to notify others so that more people can examine the concerned edit. --Vsion 17:18, 12 July 2006 (UTC)
- Indeed. Wikipedia:Verifiability even illustrated the example of having an article subject (or his research subject) providing information himself to wikipedians, stating that "Even though you have this from the author himself, you cannot include the fact that he said it in your Wikipedia entry." Dr Chee may have done us a favour by not editing the page, but his comments alone wont count for much until he could actually show us published information for us to rely on. And a reputable publisher too while we are at it, if we may consider the party website as a partisan one. Anyway, your suggestions are already in use in wikipedia isnt it? :D--Huaiwei 17:27, 12 July 2006 (UTC)
- Chee's comments are mostly nuts. Even a primary school kid could point out his motives and rebutt him. Can we sue him for bugging a fellow Wikipedian to remove bad (but true) stuff about him? --Terrancommander 17:02, 17 July 2006 (UTC)
- And Vsion, don't fret. Because of Wikipedia's free content policy, U.S. politicians have been waging covert warfare with each other by editing their opponents' articles bit by bit. This information took 3 weeks to verify before reverting, causing them to lose their reputation. Yet, the person cannot be sued because of Wikipedia's policy. If Americans can't be sued for this, Singaporeans can't be too. We can always countersue him for hiding up facts anyway, you're not alone. :) (Wikipedia is a U.S. project) --Terrancommander 17:05, 17 July 2006 (UTC)

news maintenance
We should maintain a better current events section for Singapore, of which no new articles for things like "June 2006" or "July 2006" has been created, so now we mostly rely on 2006 in Singapore for anything notable. For an entire nation there is certainly more to do, so perhaps if we posted excerpts on the noticeboard it will be better maintained? Note, I just remembered this after this entire Bhavani and mrbrown affair. Elle vécut heureuse à jamais (Be eudaimonic!) 16:10, 8 July 2006 (UTC)
- Or do you guys think we can maintain Current events in Singapore without going insane? ;) I dont mind giving it a try actually--Huaiwei 13:48, 9 July 2006 (UTC)
List of names
Hi, I have just shifted the list of names to put in in alphabetical order, makes it look much much neater. Feel free to rearrange them but please discuss if after doing so, thanks. --Terrancommander 15:13, 11 July 2006 (UTC)
- I have just sorted them back to chronological order again. Neat is subjective, but a list showing the order of people joining us in wikipedia and the ease in picking out relative newbies so that they can be welcomed into this community far outweighs pure asthetics.--Huaiwei 17:28, 11 July 2006 (UTC)
- There is already a list Category:Wikipedians in Singapore in alphabetical order. --Vsion 22:31, 11 July 2006 (UTC)
Ah, how about I am not newbie, but I just added my name to the list so I am second from the bottom? How would you classify newbie? I don't think 145 edits in a day can be considered newbie... Also, I doubt Wikipedia would allow me to join Esperanza, the Welcoming Committee, and VandalProof if I was new... --Terrancommander 09:21, 12 July 2006 (UTC)- Ignore my comments, even I don't understand what I was talking about. But... I didn't even know there was such a page until I clicked wrongly. -.-" --Terrancommander 09:41, 13 July 2006 (UTC)
-
- Heh...I suppose that is feedback we need then. ;) Lets help promote this page to fellow Sgpedians!--Huaiwei 11:48, 13 July 2006 (UTC)
- As I have already explained, the primary intention of a chronological list is clear. That intention dosent deny individual cases like yours the liberty to cease calling yourself a newbie. It is not meant to be foolproof, for this is not a scientific list, but one only maintained by individuals who volunteerily add themselves in. Even if it does not accurately reflect to the last dot how new someone is, it does at least tell us just how difficult or easy it is for new members to find this page! :D

- Anyhow, "145 edits in a day" isnt the same as "145 edits everyday". Anyone can chalk up a huge number of edits in a day and then leave wikipedia tomorrow, so lets not go into numbers, for I see no end to it.--Huaiwei 14:48, 12 July 2006 (UTC)

This Singapore Wikipedian appears to be missing, suspect to have passed. I wonder if someone has the time to check and confirm?
The simplest way is to look through the obituaries in the archived sections of The Straits Times at the National Library. Another branch with such known archives is at Jurong East. Newspaper archives are in the form of microfilm. There is some identifiable information about him : his age is 94, home believed to be at Ang Mo Kio, and last edited mid April 2006. - Best regards, Mailer Diablo 03:55, 18 July 2006 (UTC)
Peer review: "History of Singapore"
Please take a look at History of Singapore. Your comments and suggestions are appreciated at Talk:History of Singapore. --Vsion 05:25, 19 July 2006 (UTC)

Meetup?
Anyone interested in a meetup, I've created a page here. I plan to have this one in November maybe the first two weeks of holiday or else some will flee Singapore for a long vacation. ;) It should be fine as I believe almost everyone's exams are over, I don't know about those doing O and A levels this year. --Terence Ong (Chat | Contribs) 10:14, 19 July 2006 (UTC)
Help a fellow SGpedian
Hildanknight wants to leave Wikipedia because he feels stressed, and happens to have conflicts with a few SGpedians. Anyone for helping him? --Terrancommander 13:08, 19 July 2006 (UTC)
- He'll be back. -- Миборовский 06:42, 20 July 2006 (UTC)
- I'm probably not leaving. I am currently looking for WikiProjects to join, to contribute to articles of interest, and to make Wikifriends. You could help me by suggesting good WikiProjects. Currently, we don't have a WikiProject Singapore. If we did, I would be a participant, working on articles about Singapore TV shows/movies. Others could work on history, education, etc. One of the main causes of stress - blocks to 202.156.6.54 - was apparently removed; however, for the second time in two days, I was a victim of collateral damage caused by an autoblock. --J.L.W.S. The Special One 15:18, 21 July 2006 (UTC)

- To quit just because of one being an unwitting victim of an IP block seems alittle...nvm. :D Now I am quite sure our young Singaporeans have greater resilience than that? ;)--Huaiwei 21:33, 21 July 2006 (UTC)
- Yes, I'm known for my resilience. Being the unwitting victim of an IP block won't make me leave so easily. The problem is that it kept happening, especially when I was trying to contribute information, and that really stressed me. I let my stress get the better of me in the wrong way, and I lost my focus as a contributor of information. I've been informed of some recent changes to the blocking mechanism which are supposed to prevent me from being a victim of collateral damage, but there appear to be some problems with it. On a more positive note, I've just decided to sign up for the Computer and Video Games WikiProject; I will work on the following articles: Neopets, RuneScape, AdventureQuest and Chip's Challenge - and I hope to get the first two to Good Articles. However, I am still thinking about starting a WikiProject Singapore. I was chatting on MSN with Tdxiang, and he added a red link to a WikiProject (Singaporean entertainment) on the noticeboard page. However, a general Singapore WikiProject would garner more participants. Being a Singaporean and listing oneself on the noticeboard does not neccesarily mean one is actively involved in contributing to Singapore-related articles; that's where the WikiProject comes in. --J.L.W.S. The Special One 10:31, 22 July 2006 (UTC)

Peidu mama
Hear? We need an article on peidu mama!!! I just googled, and man, people have been saying nasty things about them, especially after one of them died or something. It makes me mad, and it makes me not want to associate myself with you xinjiapore(a)ns. >:( I give 3 days for the above link to turn blue, or I'll remove myself from Category:Wikipedians in Singapore (I probably should anyway), Category:Singaporean administrators and Wikipedia:SGpedians' notice board#SGpedian sysops in a somewhat lame and futile but symbolically-important cyber protest. -- Миборовский 07:16, 20 July 2006 (UTC)

- Now, Miborovsky, that's funny. When I Google "Study mamas" and read the forums, the first results I was came from someone supposedly from U.S.; who started similar threads on study mamas, ranting on about their plight and how the Government should help. Homerun nominated for Good Article
User:Richardshusr nominated the Homerun article, which I wrote, for Good Article. He also nominated the other article I wrote, Google Groups, for Good Article.
I would obviously be delighted to see two articles I wrote becoming Good Articles, especially because I am a member of the Good Articles WikiProject.
However, I think the two articles I wrote, in their current state, are "not ready" to be Good Articles. Nominating them too early may negatively affect their chances when they are ready at a later date. Could you please look through the articles, and leave your comments on the talk page (something like an informal Peer Review, or an advanced WP:RFF)? Fail the articles if you consider that the right thing to do. Please remember that I am trying to make them Good Articles, but in the future. As Homerun is a Singapore-related article, getting it to Good Article would be a boost for us.
Google Groups shows potential, and after I do some further expansions, referencing and touch-ups in August, I will Peer Review it, after which I will consider it ready to be a Good Article nominee. Homerun needs more extensive expansion, referencing, and general cleanup, but I am willing to collaborate with other Wikipedians (potential Wikifriends) to make it a Good Article, perhaps in September, after a Peer Review.

Odd Singapore flag
(The below thread is copied from my user talk page)
Hello. I found this flag using Google image search (I used the term Olympic flag). The flag is white with the Lion Head symbol in the center. How often is this flag found in the country? Thanks. User:Zscout370 (Return Fire) 08:17, 22 July 2006 (UTC)
- Hmm... I have never seen it before. Kimchi.sg 08:20, 22 July 2006 (UTC)
- I personally never seen this before, but when this photo was taken, it was taken in early June or July of 2005, when the IOC was in Singapore to pick the 2012 Summer Olympic games (given to London, United Kingdom). I am stummped to what it is. Any help is appreciated; thanks in advance. User:Zscout370 (Return Fire) 08:49, 22 July 2006 (UTC)
- Is that even a flag? Nonsense! Its just a symbol of the merlion. Just like foreigners (dailytimes) to get it wrong. If I'm not wrong, you can find it printed on any of those cheap red or white plastic bags you get at the market when buying stuff. --Terrancommander 06:16, 23 July 2006 (UTC)
- Did you see the link I pasted? It showed this very flag flying next to the Olympic flag in June of 2005. I know this is the national symbol, but this the first time I seen it in a flag form, and juding from everyone's reaction, I guess so too. User:Zscout370 (Return Fire) 06:25, 23 July 2006 (UTC)
- Yeah, just like foreigners to mix things up. But yes, this is a national symbol of Singapore and can also be seen on certain banners (but not flags). Okay, that's what I think, at least. --Terrancommander 13:30, 23 July 2006 (UTC)
- The photo clearly shows it printed on a flag in Singapore, so why deny its existance?--Huaiwei 14:28, 23 July 2006 (UTC)
- Could be photoedit? Or else Singapore went nuts and put that as their national flag for such a big event. Cause I read up on Singapore flag, and this flag isn't found in it. What I'm commenting on is the misinterpretation, my dear Huaiwei. It is clear that Zscout370 is a foreigner and I'm just trying to explain to him. And it is not common, i.e. you don't see that in National Day Parade, do you? What I meant was, I've never seen that flag in Singapore. --Terrancommander 15:23, 23 July 2006 (UTC)
-
- Ok got a response from outside of Wikipedia. In short, this is a "corporate wordmark" flag that is supposed to be used to promote the tourism industry in Singapore and mostly appears outside of the hotels. I checked, and I do not think it was a photoshop image, since I was told the photo is from the Swissôtel Stamford Hotel, since this is where the 117th meeting of the IOC took place last year. I was also told that this flag has been growing in use among tourist places, like hotels, but not in general widespread use. User:Zscout370 (Return Fire) 22:27, 23 July 2006 (UTC)
- Thanks for checking for us, Zscout370. So I suppose according to Terran, Singapore did went nuts.--Huaiwei 23:16, 23 July 2006 (UTC)
- I went nuts, since I never seen this flag before, and with Singapore being a tiny nation, I am surprised this went unchecked by myself, FOTW and others until now. Now, just need to find out some information to add it somewhere meaningful. User:Zscout370 (Return Fire) 00:14, 24 July 2006 (UTC)
- Heh I was spared from going nuts since I failed to notice that flag despite being at Raffles City throughout the period of the IOC convention! I do wonder how else we can find further information on this thou. I wont be surprised if it this flag appeared during a National Day Parade or two in the past for nothing more than decorative purposes.--Huaiwei 05:23, 24 July 2006 (UTC)
- That is being looked into, I will get back with you. But, I do not know how long I will have to wait until I get this information. And, since I have everyone's attention, would you like to help me get Flag of Singapore to FA. While I am from the United States and do not much about your country, I can pull many flag resources, prod my contacts and provide SVG images under a free license. If you want to do this, come see me on my talk page. Thanks :) User:Zscout370 (Return Fire) 05:29, 24 July 2006 (UTC)
- Wow thanks! I will try to look into this after I get past my workload in reallife thou. :D--Huaiwei 13:15, 26 July 2006 (UTC)

Wikimania 2007 bidding
For quite some time, I was thinking that we have a potential of hosting next year's Wikimania. I believe we can still put in our bid, what do you all think? We better put our bids fast enough or else it will close. --Terence Ong (Chat | Contribs) 09:44, 24 July 2006 (UTC)
- Don't think of it - we'd have to deal with an IOC-scale number of participants with less than 1/100th of the manpower and money available. Kimchi.sg 19:50, 27 July 2006 (UTC)
We need a WikiProject Singapore!
This noticeboard is a good start. It's a place for Singaporeans to meet each other and chat. However, I think we should be bold, go further, and create a WikiProject Singapore, to work on improving the standards of Singapore-related articles.
With a WikiProject, we can conduct activities such as the SCOTF, which is now inactive. In addition, as a WikiProject, we can have our own userbox. We can also place the WikiProject Singapore template on the articles of Singapore-related articles. One significant advantage of a WikiProject is that non-Singaporeans who are interested in Singapore-related articles can work with us to improve articles.
The most important question we must ask ourselves is this: We are all SGpedians. But are all, or at least most, of us working to improve Singapore-related articles? If the answer is "yes", we may not need a WikiProject.
I will contribute to WikiProject Singapore by writing articles (and improve exisitng articles) on Singapore TV shows/movies. Hopefully, by collaborating with other SGpedians to improve such articles (especially those I write), I can make more Wikifriends. It would be great if we can make some of these articles Good Articles, as I am a member of the Good Articles WikiProject.
This is one reason why I somehow feel my contributions must be part of a WikiProject. If you decide not to create a WikiProject Singapore, could you recommend me a WikiProject to join for Singapore TV shows/movies?
I would create the WikiProject myself if I was more familiar with wiki markup. Could a more experienced SGpedian help me create Wikipedia:WikiProject Singapore, and list me as a key participant?
--J.L.W.S. The Special One 13:34, 25 July 2006 (UTC)
- Hildan, try WikiProject Film if you like movies. You just need practice in Wiki markup, its simple. Isn't this notice board like our WikiProject. IMHO, I believe that a WikiProject is not necessary for the time to come as we do not have enough active users around. We should think about the pros and cons of a WikiProject, its not so easy after all. Be bold and create a WikiProject yourself. I believe there's a page where they list all the WikiProjects. Your contributions don't need to be part of a WikiProject, you can do without it, seriously. --Terence Ong (Chat | Contribs) 14:20, 25 July 2006 (UTC)
-
- A WikiProject is a way of organizing my contributions. It also helps me to collaborate with other participants to improve any articles I work on, especially articles I write, to Good Articles. In addition, other participants in the WikiProject are potential Wikifriends with similar interests. I will look at WikiProject Films; however, I work on both movies and TV shows. What are the cons of a WikiProject? --J.L.W.S. The Special One 09:15, 27 July 2006 (UTC)
- We don't have to create an all-new WikiProject. We can be more flexible and base on this one as a WikiProject itself if we want, cos' the noticeboard was created with this aim originally in mind already. - Mailer Diablo 12:04, 27 July 2006 (UTC)
- I see. I agree. We can just move this to Wikipedia:WikiProject Singapore. Then we need to work like a WikiProject - actively contributing to Singapore-related articles - and gain all the benefits of a WikiProject, such as having our own userbox. As mentioned, I will work on Singapore TV shows/movies. Is anyone also interested in local TV shows/movies? If so, we'll be the ones to write such articles, and hopefully make some Good Articles. --J.L.W.S. The Special One 12:42, 27 July 2006 (UTC)

- Er...I am not verhemently in opposition, but why should we limit ourselves based on nothing but in name? This may be called a "notice board", but does that mean the same ends cant be met with a WikiProject? I do notice that sometimes, we become so engrossed in the processes, that the ends are never arrived at, as has happened to myself as well. Just to share my tots.--Huaiwei 17:28, 29 July 2006 (UTC)

- Do we currently seem to be working like a WikiProject? Do we actively collaborate to improve Singapore-related articles? Sometimes a renaming may cause a change of mentality. Besides, I really want the "This user is a member of WikiProject Singapore" userbox on my new userpage when I finish it in two weeks. --J.L.W.S. The Special One 10:15, 30 July 2006 (UTC)

Anyone interested in Jack Neo movies?
I am a huge fan of Jack Neo movies, and writer of the Homerun (film) article. I have the VCDs of all the Jack Neo movies since Money No Enough, with the exception of Liang Po Po: The Movie.
I am currently seeking other Jack Neo fans so we can become Wikifriends and collaborate on the series of articles on Jack Neo movies.
Our tasks will include:
- Improve the Homerun (film) article I wrote to Good Article status.
- Expand the I Not Stupid and I Not Stupid Too articles (optionally Jack Neo too).
- Write the Money No Enough, That One No Enough, The Best Bet, I Do I Do and One More Chance articles (particularly the latter three, which I have greater familiarity with).
Generally, I will write an article first, and then let those collaborating with me polish it up, and we will work together to improve the articles. If the articles are good enough, we will nominate them for Good Article following a Peer Review.
Richardshusr told me that Homerun (film) (and Google Groups, another article I wrote) coud become a good article with some effort by me. In August, I plan to expand and polish the article further, together with other editors, and by the end of August, I intend to Peer Review it and then nominate it for Good Article.
If you are a Jack Neo fan, and/or wish to collaborate with me on the Jack Neo series of articles, please reply. Besides improving Wikipedia's coverage of Jack Neo, we'll be making Wikifriends.

Vandalism and blocking StarhubIP and some BEANS
There have been lots of vandalism from and blocking of User:202.156.6.54 recently, since there was never any conclusion of the discussion [1] that was held here where I tried to help us registered users, if you are a registered user suffering from beeing blocked since StarHub IP is blocked, you should have a look at this edit [2], before it gets beaned away. This is the same recomended solution that I think works, some former sysops might not think it is acceptable but some current ones seams to agree with me. (ducking and hiding and wondering if this might get me blocked?). Anyway I do assume good faith and want to help people and I did give chance to tell me why I should not recomend this and did never get an answer, looking for BEANS coming falling from the sky hitting me ...... ). Stefan 15:08, 31 July 2006 (UTC)
- Recently, some changes were made to the blocking policy, that were successful in eliminating some of the collateral damage caused by blocks. However, the problem has not been completely eradicated, as autoblocks still cause collateral damage, and more so than regular blocks. Yesterday I was completely locked out of Wikipedia due to an autoblock. Remember, these issues caused me to almost leave Wikipedia once. --J.L.W.S. The Special One 01:49, 1 August 2006 (UTC)
Singapore-related articles for deletion
Hmm...why are notices for the above section moved to an obscure location that hardly anyone seems to be tracking now? We are having an article like List of bridges in Singapore due for deletion, and I hardly see any inputs from other Singaporeans? I would propose having notices appearing here again, while archiving the rest in a seperate page for immediate visibility, especially considering the fact that these nominations are time sensitive.--Huaiwei 12:06, 1 August 2006 (UTC)

Gone for good
Our COTF has been gone for good. No more COTFs from now onwards, unless one of us would like to revive the collaboration. If revived, I hope everyone, put some effort in one way or another and help out with the COTF regularly. --Terence Ong (Chat | Contribs) 09:19, 9 August 2006 (UTC)
- Four sections above, I posted my intention to work on the Jack Neo series: writing 5 articles, expanding 2-3 articles, and getting Homerun (film) to GA status. I stated that I was seeking SGpedians to collaborate with. I have not received any response for 10 days. Is nobody interested? I wanted to make WikiProject Singapore because I wanted us to participate and collaborate, which we currently aren't doing well. --J.L.W.S. The Special One 09:51, 9 August 2006 (UTC)

- No need to give up so easily, be patient lah. It is quite unrealistic to expect quick response here, this is not "singapore 21th century civil service", think in terms of "months", instead of "days" :D. Hmm... nobody worked on the Homerun (film), really? --Vsion 14:53, 9 August 2006 (UTC)
Wikimania bid
Ok, bid for Wikimania 2007 will be officially submitted soon, when we get all the major issues done about hosting it in Singapore. If you are interested of helping out in organisation, contact me via email or my talk page. Suggestions or comments are welcomed. --Terence Ong (Chat | Contribs) 13:07, 15 August 2006 (UTC)

Attempted to change Portal:Singapore ended up in a total fiasco!
Hello everyone! I recently attempted to edit the Singapore portal to at least a featured portal status. But the attempt ended in a total mess! But don't worry. I reverted my edits to the last acceptable version. The reason for this is because I noticed that the portal needed a major makeover. The edit links of each portal boxes were linked to template pages. Compared to the Featured portals, these links are led to the respective sub-portal pages. I feel that this portal has the potential to be featured. I accept full responsibilities for my actions and wish to apologize if any harm came to this. You can view my comments on the talk page of my phantom progress. This is actually the first time I had edited a portal page extensively. However, this is not an excuse for my incompetence. I am very disappointed with my failure to improve the portal. The portal needs a major improvement! --Siva1979Talk to me 09:29, 20 August 2006 (UTC)
Suspected vandalisation of the Nan Hua High School article
Hi. I discovered that the article on Nan Hua High School is "vandalised", or put this in a proper manner, edited badly. Specifically, I found that there is an unverified section in the "Recent Achievements" section. Please check this out. Thanks. Sjsharksrs
- I have edited the article to a way more factual and true, but I expect the article to be vandalised once again. Please look out for them! :D Sjsharksrs 04:48, 28 August 2006 (UTC)
Wikimania 2007
Hello SGpedians, I appeal to all of you to help out in the bid of Wikimania 2007. This is tough on us, but we may get potential sponsors, if all of you can help. It will be great if you could. It will also let we SGpedians' get a good reputation and be well known in Singapore and the rest of the world. But first, I hope that you can help fill in details and particpate in the discussions here. We need a strong team to get the conference. I hope to get sponsors and the license, please give ideas and suggestions for the conference. Wikimedians will come to our country and see how wonderful our home is. A good start is to list your name as part of the local team. Something is better than nothing. Look at the bright side of things. Please do help in the bid, it will bring us glory. For the busy ones, just help when you are free. Some of us have exams coming up, but please propose the dates and do all the planning, before we submit an official bid. We have until September 10 to do it.
Thank you. Terence Ong (T | C) 10:05, 28 August 2006 (UTC)
Sri Perumal Temple
This article was requested in the SGpedian's noticeboard. On further research, another name for this temple is Sri Srinivasa Perumal Temple. If anyone can come up with information which is contrary to this, please feel free to make the necessary changes. I made the necessary changes by deleting the article name from the noticeboard. --Siva1979Talk to me 21:49, 4 September 2006 (UTC)
List of Singapore-related articles needing attention
I created a list, at User:Vsion/SgMaintenance, of Singapore-related articles that need attention. The list is roughly modeled after Wikipedia:Pages needing attention, the list is generated semi-automatically. Some articles were tagged very long ago, but virtually ignored. Also there are many stubs and very short articles among sg-articles. Hopefully, this new list will help us to focus on improving the quality of these articles. There are statistics available to measure how well we are doing, such as number of cleanup pages, short articles, etc. It is better than those related sections in Wikipedia:SGpedians' notice board/to do, because it is more accurate and can be updated regularly.
I'm wondering how to integrate the new list into Wikipedia:SGpedians' notice board. Should we place it (a) within Wikipedia:SGpedians' notice board/to do replacing those related sections (b) in a new maintenance section within Wikipedia:SGpedians' notice board, or (c) in a separate maintenance page? Suggestions or comments are appreciated. Thanks. --Vsion 00:09, 7 September 2006 (UTC)
- Several articles in that list that I am willing to work on include Saint Hilda's Secondary School, Mark Lee (comedian), Sharon Au and Rhapsody in Blue (drama). --J.L.W.S. The Special One 01:52, 7 September 2006 (UTC)
-
- Cool. I think topic-related maintenance is the way to go, the Wikipedia:Maintenance is simply overwhelmed by the volume of tagged articles. We could also place the sg-maintenance-list under Wikiproject Singapore when it is up. Thanks. --Vsion 13:57, 7 September 2006 (UTC)
-
- In my local machine, it is a reading bot, not an editing bot. --Vsion 13:57, 7 September 2006 (UTC)
I moved the list to Wikipedia:SGpedians' notice board/Maintenance, as a subpage of this notice board. --Vsion 03:15, 12 September 2006 (UTC)
Anyone interested in collaborating on articles about Jack Neo movies?
Greetings, fellow SGpedians. I am planning to improve Wikipedia's coverage of Jack Neo movies.
I am planning to work on a total of 10 articles:
- Improve Homerun (film) to Good Article status.
- Expand the I Not Stupid article.
- Expand the I Not Stupid Too article.
- Expand the Jack Neo article.
- Expand the Megan Zheng article.
- Write an article on Money No Enough.
- Write an article on That One No Enough.
- Write an article on The Best Bet.
- Write an article on I Do I Do.
- Write an article on One More Chance.
This is a mammoth project, and will probably take at least a month. Therefore, I am seeking SGpedians who are willing to collaborate with me on this project. WikiProject Singapore redirects here, so it is clear this is the place to post.
I do not need help with writing the articles; I believe I have adequate writing skills. There are a few things those collaborating could help me with:
- We should agree on a common structure for all the articles on the Jack Neo movies. The articles Jack Neo and Megan Zheng are about people, not movies, and therefore will not have the same structure as the other articles.
- Create a template which has links to each of the eight articles on Jack Neo movies. For an example of what I mean, see the template at the bottom of SingTel, which has links to articles on Singapore's two other telcos: StarHub and MobileOne.
- Once I have written an article, or made my significant expansion to an article:
- Copyedit the article.
- Ensure proper formatting of references and fix any other formatting problems.
- Further expand the article to fill in any gaps in my knowledge.
- Add references.
If you are interested in collaborating with me on these articles, please inform me by leaving a reply here, and optionally, also dropping a note on my talk page. Many hands do make light work, and I hope we can collaborate to ensure Wikipedia has a comprehensive coverage of Jack Neo movies, and that I can make a few Wikifriends in the process. Thanks for reading, and I hope there are many SGpedians who would be interested in collaborating with me.
--J.L.W.S. The Special One 12:35, 7 September 2006 (UTC)
- I am interested in Homerun (film) and I Not Stupid which are my favourite films. Unfortunately, I haven't watch the other movies yet. I should also work on Jack Neo, but I have had difficulties finding material on him. As for the article layout, one suggestion is to examine feature articles of similar topics such as Casablanca (film), Eric Bana as a reference on how to organise, expand, and improve the articles. Cheers. --Vsion 01:48, 8 September 2006 (UTC)
-
- While some Jack Neo fans may wish to collaborate with me on all the articles, if you can collaborate with me on only two, that's fine with me. Obviously, this will mean I need more people to collaborate with if each person only helps me with two or three articles; although it does mean more potential Wikifriends. Let's get started! --J.L.W.S. The Special One 05:33, 8 September 2006 (UTC)
I have completed my rewrite of the I Not Stupid article, and posted a request for feedback on the article. Would anyone here like to read the article and respond to my feedback request? Feel free to further improve the article, and help me format the references. --J.L.W.S. The Special One 04:09, 17 September 2006 (UTC)
Primary schools in Northern Ireland
I have been adding Primary schools articles for Northern Ireland, largely stubs, to which new contributors have started to add to and develop etc, but have come under attack by people proposing that all such primary school articles should be deleted as being non-notable etc. You can see the debate at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Abercorn Primary School. A little help would be useful (assuming you agree with my arguments). I have been quoting Singapore as a precedent area where primary schools are listed and articles appear. Thanks. Ardfern 18:58, 11 September 2006 (UTC)
About a requested article.
I would like to comment about the potential article, 2005 Singapore Fashion Festival which is requested in the notice board. A google search shows only about two or three unique hits for this topic. Clearly, this is a non-notable event. On a personal note, I do not mind creating this article, but I am afraid that it would be deleted through an AfD process in the near future. So, should I remove this red-link from the notice board? Any comments about this would be greatly helpful here. Of course, I will be delighted if a user manages to create this article with lots of references and sources and prove its notability! --Siva1979Talk to me 04:03, 12 September 2006 (UTC)
- Alright, if there is no objections raised soon, I will be deleting 2005 Singapore Fashion Festival from the list due to the above stated reasons. Please comment on this as soon as possible! Any objections to this will be welcomed! --Siva1979Talk to me 03:13, 18 September 2006 (UTC)
- Well, I have deleted this potential article from the noticeboard. However, if any editor could verify the contents of this subject, I have no objections in its creation. But, currrently, a google search shows no useful links to this topic. --Siva1979Talk to me 18:56, 19 September 2006 (UTC)
Bak Chor Mee
I think the Bak Chor Mee section in the Mee Pok article should be removed and put as new article. If one has eaten Bak Chor Mee, we should understand that it is not always Mee Pok. Many Bak Chor Mee are also Mee Kia, and some stalls that sells only BCM also uses other noodles. It also needs to be expanded. HistoryManiac 17:54, 16 September 2006 (UTC)
Second meetup
I need to plan the meetup, so please kindly select the dates you wish to have the meetup on. The most number of votes will be the meetup day. If you all don't want a meetup at the end of the year, it's fine with me. --Terence Ong (T | C) 13:58, 22 September 2006 (UTC)
Singaporean American
Singaporean American has been proposed for merging with Chinese American or Asian American. Knowing how kiasu you guys tend to be, you might have something to say about it.
In other news, Mib got a call from an "Inspector" (what sort of position is inspector, anyway?) to join teh uber1337 SG army, best in Singapore and JB, and some say Batam. Will I be seeing you kiddos (and big scary army goons) soon? Mayhap. But probably not. -- Миборовский 04:55, 26 September 2006 (UTC) Insertformulahere
