[edit] Welcome!

Hi SGCommand, and a warm welcome to Wikipedia! I hope you have enjoyed editing as much as I did so far and decide to stay. Unfamiliar with the features and workings of Wikipedia? Don't fret! Be Bold! Here's some good links for your reference and that'll get you started in no time!

Most Wikipedians would prefer to just work on articles of their own interest. But if you have some free time to spare, here are some open tasks that you may want to help out :

  • RC Patrol - Keeping a lookout for vandalism.
  • Cleanup - Help make unreadable articles readable.
  • Requests - Wanted on WP, but hasn't been created.
  • Merge - Combining duplicate articles into one.
  • Wikiprojects - So many to join, so many to choose from...Take your pick!

Oh yes, don't forget to sign when you write on talk pages, simply type four tildes, like this: ~~~~. This will automatically add your name and the time after your comments. And finally, if you have any questions or doubts, don't hesitate to contact me on my talk page. Once again, welcome! =)

[edit] Image copyrights

Like Wikipedia, Wikicities is covered by the GFDL. That means that all content (text) uploaded to it is also. Uploaded images must have an image copyright tag stating the licensing information on them. Copyright (for intellectual property purposes) is retained by the original author unless they sell it or relinquish it; whether you can use an image or not depends on what the copyright holder has said. For example, I could draw a picture of a cube in Paint, uploaded, and release it into the public domain because it has no creative aspect. Then again, I could draw a picture (not a diagram) of a tree, and license it under the GFDL and a few Creative Commons licenses (yes, there are several). In a third case, I could make a TV program and try and sue anyone who puts pictures on the Internet; they could claim fair use, or I could have no case if it was a promontional picture (eg. a movie poster).

In short: Go read Wikipedia:Image copyright tags. Alphax τεχ 15:36, 11 Apr 2005 (UTC)

[edit] MySpace

to do all of that editing, go to http://www.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=messageboard.viewThread&entryID=253516&categoryID=68&IsSticky=1 (it is a forum post, if it asks you to log in, do so). It provides links to any site you might need to go to to help you, even links to sites where you just choose how you want your page to look like, and it generates the codes for you -- AlexTheMartian | Talk 22:07, Apr 24, 2005 (UTC)

[edit] About fiction/reality distinction

When you make articles about STAR WARS, could you please mention clearly that what you write is a fiction ? The fact is that you are not mentionning it, which is quite disturbing for unfamiliar readers. I know it's tiring to systematically put In Star Wars, X is a ... but it's really necessary. • What, are you just doing this to annoy me? Do you have a reason for opposing? Cause if you dont, I'm going to merge them tommorrow. 203.184.24.123 07:42, 19 July 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Your image uploads

Please note (a) that Wikipedia is not a free web space provider, and (b) that most of your images have neither source nor an appropriate license. Images without source or license will be deleted after seven days. Lupo 12:05, 6 October 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Kadaj

He's a major player in one film. Wikipedia has guidelines relating to fictional characters, and they state rather plainly that characters within a work of fiction should be covered within the article dedicated to that work of fiction, unless they can be demonstrated to transcend their source (for instance, by appearing in multiple works), or are recognized cultural icons. Kadaj is neither, and, as such, does not deserve his own article. This has been discussed at great length previously, and it the consensus of those involved was that there simply isn't enough of general interest to say about the character (beyond fancruft) that can't be said just as well in another, more broadly focused article. – Seancdaug 12:19, 14 November 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Villians and villains

Just a note so you know - you've got "villain" misspelled as "villian" throughout your user page, including in the titles of the articles you're working on. I'd have fixed it for you, but I didn't really feel I could go moving your subpages around when you'd specially asked people to leave them alone, so I've left the lot untouched. — Haeleth Talk 22:33, 29 November 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Image Tagging Image:Alexia.gif

Warning sign
This media may be deleted.

Thanks for uploading Image:Alexia.gif. I notice the 'image' page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is therefore unclear. If you have not created this media yourself then you need to argue that we have the right to use the media on Wikipedia (see copyright tagging below). If you have not created the media yourself then you should also specify where you found it, i.e., in most cases link to the website where you got it, and the terms of use for content from that page.

If the media also doesn't have a copyright tag then you must also add one. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then you can use {{GFDL}} to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media qualifies as fair use, please read fair use, and then use a tag such as {{fairusein|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair_use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other media, please check that you have specified their source and copyright tagged them, too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any unsourced and untagged images will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. [edit] Drawing

The article was at Hook-Handed Man but has since been changed.

Here is where I found the pic, however: http://www.deviantart.com/view/15464892/

Hope that helps.--CyberGhostface 22:44, 2 February 2006 (UTC)

[edit] NO Source.

Im inquiring about the Metal Gear Solid B.D you created. There is no source, the message reffers to it being the "latest" Metal Gear game, I personally have never heard of this. Can it be deleted? -- Psi edit 22:22, 23 February 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Removal of merger tags

Please do not remove merger tags from articles such as Governor Severus unless a consensus has been achieved. Such edits could be considered to be vandalism and could get you blocked if you continue. Cheers --Pak21 18:28, 11 April 2006 (UTC)

La'Kais is the agreed upon example of a character in a 40k video game who is "notable enough" to have their own article. If you're trying to assert that Severus is as important as La'Kais, that's would be a valid reason to keep him, but I think you're going to have to provide some evidence for this fact before people are convinced. I note that a Google for 'severus "fire warrior"' produces only 401 hits, as opposed to 'kais "fire warrior"' which produces 12,800, and that on the IMDB listing for Fire Warrior, Severus is only fourth. Cheers --Pak21 18:53, 11 April 2006 (UTC)
That's why I recommended a merge into Warhammer 40,000: Fire Warrior: create a "notable characters" section there, and populate it with La'Kais (probably just a reference to his full article), Severus and (judging by the IMDB listing), The Admiral, Lusha and Ardius as well. Cheers --Pak21 19:00, 11 April 2006 (UTC)

Woah! Slow down a bit there. I think what you need to do know is to take part in the discussion and see what the rest of the community thinks. Give an explanation of why Severus is important in the game and therefore deserves to be mentioned. Wikipedia works well when editors reach a consensus; Wikipedia works very badly indeed when editors just edit things without taking into account the views of other editors. Cheers --Pak21 19:14, 11 April 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Catherine Tramell

I understand that you are tying to get background info, and I was only saying that maybe it's not something that can easily be built into an article. I'd help if I could, but it's a long time since I've watched Basic Instinct and I'm left more with impressions rather than a detailed recollection. I haven't even seen the sequel. Maybe you could try doing a Google search and see what's available elsewhere. That's about all I can suggest. Rossrs 13:57, 13 April 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Gnaeus Pompeius Magnus (character of Rome) Merger

Isn't it obvious that they're the same person? I feel that whenever a fictional character is clearly meant to be identical to (as opposed to loosely based on) a real person they should not get a unique page. I wasn't taking note when I watched the mini-series ;-) but I felt that they portrayed Pompey quite accurately. Any innacuracies can just be noted on the Pompey page under the existing heading "Pompey in literature and the arts". Is there any reason why you would want to keep them separate? [edit] Star Wars Talk Archive

[edit] Peace Brigade

In my talk page, you asked if I wanted help you out on the Star Wars orginizations. While I'm flattered, I haven't read enough novels to feel really qualified to write on a lot of stuff. I might be able to help on some of the companies, using the essential guides. I also might be able to help out on the Mistryl Shadow Guard, but I think that one would probably be best on the List of minor Star Wars organizations.-LtNOWIS 19:03, 21 Apr 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Moffs

SG, might I ask why you copied our, no, my list of moffs to Wikipedia. You know that only a handful (maybe not even that) might even been worthy of this site. The list should only exist on Wookieepedia. -- Riffsyphon1024 10:49, Jun 11, 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Stargate Talk Archive

[edit] R-57

Don't think so as of yet, as this bug has only appeared in "The Scourge". Maybe it should be included into Prior (Stargate) instead? --SoWhy 14:41, 21 February 2006 (UTC)

I think "List of alien races" is more for humanoid and/or sentient beings, not for flora and fauna. As those bugs are most likely made by the Ori and/or the Priors like the plague, they should be considered a weapon and thus be named in those articles.  SoWhy Talk 13:17, 22 February 2006 (UTC)
