TCC listed this as a copyright violation, but I don't believe it is. Comments? – Quadell (talk) (bounties) 14:28, 24 August 2006 (UTC)
- Why not? I provided the source, which was not a US government agency, and which carried a copyright notice. TCC (talk) (contribs) 20:12, 24 August 2006 (UTC)

- The images on SFEI are indeed copyrighted, but they are derived from public domain maps from the US East Coast Survey (a branch of the USDA). These original maps are not copyrightable. The map in this image is a scan of the original from the USDA, which was modified by SFEI to create a copyrighted work. That's what it looks like to me, anyway. - If that's really the source of the basic map (the USDA is cited for only the historical one) it's a horrid misnomer of a project. "East Coast Survey" for San Francisco Bay? But I don't think they simply scanned the maps, and in any event they pulled together a great deal of additional information from other sources. Perhaps I should take it to WP:MCQ and see what they say there. TCC (talk) (contribs) 02:09, 25 August 2006 (UTC)
