The 2004 Embassy World Snooker Championship took place between the 17 April and 3 May 2004 at the Crucible Theatre, Sheffield. Mark Williams looked to defend his world title which he won in 2003, but the final winner was Ronnie O'Sullivan, beating Graeme Dott by 18 frames to 8 in the final.
[edit] Notable Moments
Notable moments from the championship include:
- Chris Small was forced to retire from his first round match against Alan McManus due to effects of his spinal disease ankylosing spondylitis. His condition would later force him to retire from the game permanently, so this championship marked his last appearance at the Crucible.
- Ronnie O'Sullivan's noted temperamental nature flared up, with numerous displays of anger and dismay at his performance in the first couple of rounds.
- Graeme Dott raced into a 5-0 lead in the final, only for Ronnie O'Sullivan to come storming back, with Graeme only winning 3 more frames in the entire match as Ronnie eventually won 18-8.
