Seyoum Mesfin

Seyoum Mesfin (Seyoum Mesfin Gebredingle) (born January 1949) is the current Ethiopian Minister of Foreign Affairs. Seyoum Mesfin was born in Tigray Province. Seyoum has a science training and academic background, gained first at Bahar Dar Polytechnic Institute and later from his four-year tenure at the Science Faculty of Addis Ababa University.
He started managing the conduct of Ethiopia’s diplomacy following the overthrow in May 1991 of the Derg, by the forces of the Ethiopian People's Revolutionary Democratic Front (EPRDF).
Besides his present post as Foreign Minister, Mr. Seyoum Mesfin continues to serve as the Deputy Chairperson of the Tigrayan People's Liberation Front (TPLF), a member of the 4-party coalition known as the EPRDF. He also serves as an Executive Member of the EPRDF. In the TPLF, he is Meles Zenawi's Deputy.
His exposure to different cultures and his avid interest in international affairs, as well as his positive disposition in the conduct of foreign relations, have enabled him to carry out skilful negotiations at several international forums, thus laying the ground for his diplomatic career.
Seyoum is married and has four children.
