Sex trade (Canada)

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The sex trade, or sex-trade, is a term used to describe prostitution and sex work in Canada.

Victimization through the sex trade is a result of many factors including: a global failure to adequately address the decriminalization and legalization of prostitution; the tacit classification of sex workers as second-class citizens by law-enforcement; illegal drugs; warfare; and violence against women.

[edit] The Game

Sometimes known as "The Game" or "The Trap"[citation needed], the sex trade is an ongoing struggle primarily involving cultural values and gender stereotypes. Unlike sexual slavery, individuals who enter the sex trade usually do so knowingly and without coercion. The party lifestyle, easy money and access to a side of humanity rarely seen outside of contemporary fiction are attractive qualities for the intense and sometimes troubled personalities who become key spokes in the sex trade wheel.

  • "We are no longer in the ditch, or in the alley or the field or the trunk of a car. We are not even on the street corners. We are now present in sun that shines, in the stars that twinkle in the sky, in the wind and the rain and snow that falls upon earth. Let the memories of our short lives do some good, so that others can enjoy the peace and freedom we were denied.", Kathy King, mother of murdered sex trade worker[1], May 18th, 2006
