Severed Head of State is a hardcore punk band with members split between Portland, Oregon and Austin, Texas, with band members playing in other bands as World Burns To Death, J Church, Tragedy, Warcry. Their lyrics usually range into deep detestation of both human nature and the Christian belief system. In contrast to bands that portray hope around mankind through the frustration of the lyrics, Severed Head of State more or less shows how hopeless and futile it is. Their sound conveys this as well, from slow melodies to furious thrashcore. Vocalist Jack Control was stabbed mid-section late January 2006 with the blow just missing the heart by inches.
