[edit] Practices in Israel
It is well agreed upon by Rabbinical sources that the seventh of Adar is the date of Moses' death. It says in the Bible that "no one knows the exact death place of Moses, even till this day". From this idea, the Israeli army in collaboration with the Israeli Defense Forces have designated this day in rememorance of those soldiers that have fallen in war though their bodies have not been found or identified. On Mount Hertzl, there is a wall with the names of 588 fallen soldiers that died in Israel with unknown grave sites.
