Seven Overtimes

On November 1, 2003, the University of Arkansas and the University of Kentucky tied an NCAA record for the longest football game with 7 overtime periods. Coincidentally, Arkansas played a 7 overtime game against University of Mississippi on November 3, 2001 - winning that game 58-56. Arkansas also lost a 6 overtime game to Tennessee in 2003, 41-38. The final score to the Arkansas-Kentucky game was Arkansas 71, Kentucky 63. The game, broadcast nationally on ESPN2, also set an NCAA record for the most points scored in a game (after 1950). The game lasted 4 hours and 56 minutes. The game was played at Commonwealth Stadium in Lexington, Kentucky.

Kentucky had 4th and 3 at the Arkansas 5, in the seventh overtime period, but quarterback Jared Lorenzen fumbled the football on a quarterback keeper play, ending the game. Kentucky's best chance to win came in the 3rd overtime. Arkansas was leading 41-38, but Kentucky had a 4th and goal at the 1 yard line. Kentucky could have won the game on a quarterback sneak; however, an illegal substitution penalty forced the Wildcats to try a field goal.
