To any moderators it may concern: In the next 3 or so days you're going to see a lot of bizarre edits to my user profile. Do not be alarmed - these are individuals from various internet communities trying their hand at writing such a page. While you are encouraged to make changes you may feel based on your respected positions, the page itself should not be locked or otherwise protected from these individuals. Thank you for your time and consideration.
- Hey, sorry about that. Honestly I didn't read your original text, I just saw a bunch of random BS that often finds itself on user's pages. But if you're ok with that I'll of course leave your page alone. Cheers. --Fang Aili 說嗎? 16:57, 30 March 2006 (UTC)
- No worries. You won't be the first, or the last, to do their jobs while being unaware of the motive of the "vandalism" that is taking place. Sethimothy 17:01, 30 March 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Your questions
Ah, the guy with the experimental userpage. Genghis "Rocking Awesome" Khan.. awesome. Well, about your questions.
- "Harmless but useless" templates. Hmm.. I don't know of any official depository. I've collected various templates and/or code from looking at random userpages over the past few months. I just copied what I liked.
- Unverified information--this is a bit more complex. I basically just use my discretion. If the information seems pretty plausible, then I usually leave it alone, especially if the editor seems to be experienced and has no record of vandalism, and/or I don't know enough about the subject to make a determination. If the information is a little "out there" but still plausible, I'll put a {{fact}} tag on it, which creates a little "citation needed" bit after the information in question. If the information just sounds ridiculous, and the editor has few or just vandal edits, then I'll usually delete it and leave a message with the editor asking about it. Regarding your edit ([1]), I probably would have added the {{fact}} tag--it seems plausible enough, given the rest of the article, and the editor in question made constructive edits elsewhere [2]. If you'd like to research it yourself, I believe all sexual predator information is available online.
- If the whole article lacks sources, {{unreferenced}} may be appropriate. (See Vincent Gallo as an example.)
- For more "official" templates, see templates for talk pages and Wikipedia:Template messages.
Let me know if you have any more questions! Happy editing. --Fang Aili 說嗎? 03:51, 8 April 2006 (UTC)
