Seth Armstrong was a fictional character in the ITV soap Emmerdale, played by Stan Richards from 1978 until 2003, when the Actor's ill health forced him to leave the show for more than a year. Seth made two final cameos in 2004 once, in the form of a Phone call which was left on Betty Eagleton's answering machine and his final appearance was on the internet, which was shown on a laptop in the Woolpack. Richards was keen to reprise his role, but on 11 February 2005 he died of Emphysema and several months later, Seth died off-screen out of respect for him.
