Set piece (film)

In film, a set piece is a usually elaborate sequence which sees either a chase, fight, or other action taking place in an original and memorable way.
Notable examples of set pieces include the Snake Pit in Raiders of the Lost Ark, the Death Star Trench Run in Star Wars and the storming of the volcano lair in the James Bond film, You Only Live Twice.
Set pieces often take place to quicken the pace of a film or as draws for audiences. As with all aspects of moviemaking, they can vary from very well done to very badly done.
