Rose Tyler is a young shop assistant in London whose world changes forever when she is attacked by murderous mannequins and saved by a mysterious stranger calling himself the Doctor. But who is this man? What is the mysterious blue box? And why are shop dummies coming to life?

The Ninth Doctor takes his new companion, Rose, on her first trip through time: 5 billion years into the future. There, on a space station called Platform One, he and Rose are on hand with a group of alien races to witness the Sun expand and swallow the Earth. However, there is a saboteur and murderer on the station, in control of deadly robotic spiders.

The Ninth Doctor and Rose arrive in Cardiff on Christmas Eve, 1869 and discover that something is making the dead come back to life. The time travellers team up with a world-weary Charles Dickens to investigate Gabriel Sneed, the local undertaker and his servant girl Gwyneth — and come face to face with the ghostly Gelth.

The Ninth Doctor takes Rose back to 21st century London, just in time to witness a spaceship crashing into the River Thames, triggering a worldwide state of alert and the closing off of the city. As the Doctor investigates the survivor of the crash, Rose finds problems closer to home. The Ninth Doctor, Rose and Harriet Jones are trapped in 10 Downing Street. The world stands poised on the brink of interplanetary war, and the missiles can only be stopped if the Slitheen can be unmasked in time.

In an underground bunker in Utah, billionaire Henry van Statten keeps an exclusive collection with one very special exhibit — the last of an alien race. The Doctor's greatest enemy is back, and Rose is about to be caught in the crossfire.

Along with new companion Adam, the TARDIS deposits the Ninth Doctor and Rose on Satellite 5, a space station that broadcasts across the entire Fourth Great and Bountiful Human Empire. However, those who are promoted to Floor 500 simply disappear; humanity might be being manipulated by the news — and who exactly is the sinister Editor working for?

The Ninth Doctor brings Rose to 1987 so she can see her father Pete, whom she was too young to know when he died that year. However, when Rose interferes with the pattern of history, the terrifying Reapers descend upon the Earth.

Chasing a metallic object through the vortex, the Ninth Doctor and Rose arrive in London during the Blitz. There, they find homeless children being terrorised, dead bodies with unexplained marks on their hands and a strange cylinder guarded by the army. The Child's plague is spreading throughout wartime London, and its zombie army is on the march. The Ninth Doctor and Rose form an alliance with intergalactic con man Captain Jack, but find themselves trapped in the abandoned hospital. The answer lies at the crash site, but time is running out...

The Ninth Doctor, Rose and Jack travel to modern-day Cardiff and meet up with Rose's boyfriend, Mickey. There, they discover that a recent enemy is very much alive, and is willing to rip apart the planet to ensure her freedom.

The TARDIS crew are trapped separately in a series of deadly versions of reality television programmes when they return to Satellite 5, last seen in The Long Game. But who is behind the mysterious Badwolf Corporation? The Ninth Doctor fights to save both Rose and Earth as the invasion begins. However, the Doctor may have to sacrifice everything as he faces the saviour of his oldest enemies.
