Sergey Belavenets

Sergey Belavenets Russian: Сергей Всеволодович Белавенец (July 18, 1910 — March 7, 1942) was a Russian chess master, chess theoretician, and chess journalist of Belarusian descent.
Belavenets was born in Smolensk to a noble family.
In 1934 he was champion of the USSR in chess.
During the Great Patriotic War he was killed in action under Staraya Russa.
Since 1984, internalional chess competitions "In Memoriam of S.V.Belavenets" have been held in Smolensk.
His daughter Liudmila Belavenets is women's world correspondence chess champion (1984-1992).
