Sergay Wáng (セルゲイ・ウォン Serugei Won?) (in some translations Sergay Wong) is a secondary character in the anime and manga series My Otome. Sergay, a commander in the Artai military who serves as Nagi's right-hand man, is Nina's adoptive father, also serves as part of the council of Garderobe and represents Nagi. His character design is similar to Yuuichi Tate's from My-HiME; however, Sergay is voiced by Katsuyuki Konishi while Yuuichi was voiced by Tomokazu Seki and every other Otome character with a HiME counterpart is voiced by the person who did their HiME counterpart, so he may or may not actually be Yuuichi's Otome counterpart. It is speculated that he is meant to also be the counterpart to Takeda, captain of Fuuka Academy's kendo team, because both have scars and are hated/disliked by their world's Natsukis.

He is also known as the 'North Hound', a nickname given because of his ruthless, cold behavior when dealing with his enemies.

During a SLAVE incident in the first episode, Sergay meets up with Nina at Garderobe where he meets Natsuki Kruger. Apparently the two dislike each other due to an event in the past but it is never revealed as to what it was. The dislike is probably due to the fact that they are both young political rivals rather than a more personal reason, although as mentioned above it could also be a reference to the antipathy Natsuki Kuga displays to Takeda in My-HiME.

When he first met Arika due to 'slight' mishap in meeting his daughter Nina, he called her "Anty" as her hairstyle looked like an ant to him.

Sergay was in Windbloom as an exchange student when it was attacked by rebels 15 years ago, the same time that the princess went missing. Prior to that he had a major crush on Rena Sayers, the former Blue Sky Sapphire, Otome of the King of Windbloom, and was good friends with her as he has pictures with her in an album Nina Wáng found when she was younger. Rena treated him affectionately as though he was her younger brother. It is because of this when he finds the Sapphire GEM on Arika Yumemiya, that he concludes that she is Rena's daughter, thus he secretly sponsors Arika at Garderobe. Nevertheless, he keeps up a poker face in front of Arika and teases her whenever he gets the chance, no doubt in remincising of his time with Rena. For Nina, Sergay acts as a responsible father for her and supports her whenever and however he can. It is also later revealed that he is familiar with Nao whom he picked to become one of Artai's Otomes.

While Nagi was visiting in Windbloom, both himself and Sergay toured around the city as well as Garderobe and followed the Headmaster, her staff and the students when they head out to the Aries Republic for an exam. During the incident when Arika and Erstin became lost, Nagi and reminds Sergay not to betray him and continue his mission, which is to find the real princess. During the exam, the Aswad knights were in the area searching for hidden technology, which Arika unfortunately got involved in. Sergay came to her rescue and the two hid out on the beach since Arika was soaking wet and shivering from the cold. Sergay used his own body to keep Arika warm during the night, which lead to a very interesting situation when she woke up the next morning.

Time passes and Arika falls in love with Sergay. Ironically, Sergay received information around the same time that the one who carried the Blue Sky Sapphire is the real princess and received orders from Nagi to seduce the princess in order to manipulate her. This throws Sergay into a conflict as he questions his feelings and loyalty to his country. In the end, he betrays Nagi and keeps Arika's identity a secret and promptly rejects her love.

After the events when Schwarz takes over Windbloom, Sergay is given a second chance to work with Nagi again and is assigned a team of Valkyries to capture Mashiro. During the chaotic events prior to this, Sergay finds himself conflicted again with his feelings and loyalties but this time chooses loyalty due to his love for his daughter, Nina. Among the Valkyries, Chie Hallard joined his team to spy on Artai. When asked if he was displeased, Sergay simply replied that he feels calm with her on the team and works with Chie directly more than with the other Valkyries.

[edit] Near death experiences

Throughout the show, Sergay has been thrown into situations where a normal person would get killed. Nevertheless, regardless of the magnitude of the danger, Sergay pulls through and is up and walking in no time.

1st - Sergay was injured by shrapnel caused by a misfiring of Nina's gun when he was investigating an assassin ring in Artai. This resulted in a scar on Sergay's forehead. (This is not a near death experience but is noteworthy in the character's history)

2nd - Lumen sent a SLAVE fish after Sergay which he attempted to take out with a speargun. Unfortunately, the SLAVE attacked first but Sergay escaped with only a slash in his left arm.

3rd - During Schwarz's attack on Windbloom, Sergay takes a SLAVE shot meant for Arika. The SLAVE slashes Sergay's waist but no blood is drawn.

4th - Sergay is caught in a massive explosion caused by the colliding of powers by Nina and Arika and he leaves with injuries around his mid section.

5th - In a failed attempt to capture Mashiro with the Valkyries, Sergay attempts to protect Tomoe Marguerite by firing at Miyu before she landed the final blow. Miyu turns and drives her sword straight through his stomach but the wound is not fatal.

6th - When Nina activates the Harmonium to attack Arika in revenge for Sergay's wounds, Miyu fights back with her powers which cause yet another massive explosion Sergay gets caught up in. In the aftermath, Sergay is left with only injuries around his mid section again and is up and running shortly.

7th - During a confrontation with Smith regarding Rena, Sergay is shot in the head by Nagi and falls into a coma. This throws Nina off the edge as Nagi tells her to use the Harmonium to heal him. In the end, he survives and wakes up after an unknown period of time, seeing a grown up Nina but without his memory.

[edit] OVA

Sergay is briefly seen near the end of the first episode of the OVA. It is currently unclear what role, if any, he will play in the events of the OVA.

Sergay's manga incarnation threatens "Manshiro"

In the manga adaptation of the series, Sergay (surnamed "August Taiki") is the prime minister of Windbloom and a colonel of its army. He still originates from Artai and knows Nagi well.

However, besides a new last name, he also has a practically opposite personality when compared to his anime self. He behaves in a rather dark and sinister way most of the time - without displaying even the slightest bit of compassion his anime counterpart was known for. He presents sponsorship over the fake Mashiro's (Manshiro) attendance in Garderobe, but only because having such an impersonator within the place fits into his plans. He wants the boy fully under his control and often loses his temper when faced with Manshiro's vigor. Instead of the crush his anime counterpart had on Rena, this Sergay displays antipathy towards her, being unhappy that she is still alive[1]. This Sergay is also older than his anime counterpart, as he is already depicted as a young adult when Rena is retiring from her service to the Windbloom throne[2].

He later completes the change of roles from the plotline of the anime by becoming the main antagonist instead of Nagi, and releases the dark HiMEs to fight the Otomes and bury the world in destruction. It is interesting to note another reversal from the anime where he was one of those who knew that Mashiro was not the true princess although others believed her to be real. In the manga, he reveals the true origins of Manshiro as actually being part of the royal bloodline instead of just being a fake as was believed. With the power of the Ultimate Black Diamond, he commands Fumi to Materialise and seems on the edge of victory, only to be defeated by the combined power of Manshiro, Arika, Nina and Erstin. As he lies apparently dying, however, he tricks Manshiro into coming near and then takes the Pure White Diamond, transforming into a great monster. This "victory" is only temporary, though, as Manshiro draws on the power of all the Otomes to Materialise his own Robe and kill him for good.
