Serena van der Woodsen

Serena Caroline van der Woodsen is a fictional character from the Cecily von Ziegezar book series Gossip Girl. She and Blair Waldorf are perhaps the two most prominent characters in the series.

Serena Caroline van der Woodsen (b. July 14, 1985) is a rich New York City girl who attends the "Constance Billard High School", an all-girls school. She is described as model-tall and thin with a perfect body, glowing even skin, a stormy blue gaze with her gigantic dark-blue eyes and a long sheet of silky pale blonde hair. She and Blair Waldorf had been best friends before van der Woodsen was sent to a boarding school. Serena van der Woodsen and Blair Waldorf lost contact while van der Woodsen was in boarding school.
Serena was expelled from her boarding school, and she had to return to Constance Billard in New York. It was rumored among her former friends that van der Woodsen had a wild life while in boarding school. It was generally suspected (by her classmates) when van der Woodsen returned to New York that she had sex with several different boys and had a baby born in France led to van der Woodsen's school expelling and consequential return to New York. Even though none of these rumors are true.
When she returned to New York, things were tense between her and Blair. Nevertheless, Blair's mother was about to marry a rich Hampton's resident and named Serena as one of her wedding's bridesmaids. Since the wedding's reception took place at the "St. Claire's Hotel", room reservations were made in that building for the bridesmaids and ushers. Serena and Blair shared the same room.
Serena van der Woodsen had an admirer, Dan. Dan is a poet who likes to write romantic poems to Serena. She, however, at first feels somewhat scared of him because of the intensity of the poems he sends her. Serena herself told Dan that she felt his poems were too intense. Serena continued her friendship with Dan, despite her mild fears about his feelings towards her. Dan got over Serena, getting romantically involved with another girl who was actually interested in him---Vanessa Williams
She has always had a thing for Nate, Blair's boyfriend, which often causes trouble between the two girls. Nate fell in love with Serena after their tenth year when they slept together, having lovely sex, but stayed in love with Blair. The stoner has always had trouble sorting out his feelings o theirfore he was in love with both girls. After Serena left He became fully devoted to blair--at least for most of the time.
Serena van der Woodsen is a part-time model who went on to study at Yale university with Blair and Nate.
Serena also has an older brother, Erik van der Woodsen, who attends Brown university and who acually had a thing with Blair.
