In a period from start of the civil war in former Socialist Yugoslavia(SFRJ)up to death of Slobodan Milosevic Serbia was widely regarded as a ganster state(BBC,2000). Mafia connections to government were fairly exposed, corruption was rampant in every branch of government from border patrols to law enforcment agencies. In this period mafia got good exposure in the media and some of the gansters could have been considered trend setters. With Milosevic out of power Mafia waited in silence for a while and then embarked to devide territory amongst themselves. Soon a bloody fued emerged amongst themselves in which many of the mafia bosses have lost their lives. In 2003 government cracked down on mafia in a operation "Sablja"(Sword)in a proces many of the bosses still left were either arested, killed or escaped abroad.
